How a Photographer Takes a Holiday in Santorini
As a travel photographer, you probably think my life is a holiday. But in Santorini, I took as close to a vacation as you'll ever find me take.
I should mention, that I did not really love #santorini the first time I visited. But this time, my mind was turned a bit. I guess maybe I went wrong season last time, or had some expectations in my head. Or, I just struggled as a photographer. This time, the travel photos felt like they flowed really naturally in Santorini, and I think the fact that I was on holiday made it a lot more stress-free.
Overall, I really loved going out and wandering around Santorini with my camera. And I do think some of the photos came our pretty nicely!

The Reality of Iconic Photo Locations in Japan
Переглядів 11 тис.21 день тому
There are some iconic photo spots in Japan. But, word of warning: they get crazy busy. Visit www.squarespace.com/brendanvanson On today's photography vlog, I'm in Japan for a second run around. Landscape Photography @ Mt Fuji
Переглядів 12 тис.Місяць тому
Mt Fuji is one of the most impressive sights on the planet, and it's a really fun location for landscape photography. However, as impressive as it is, it's not the easiest landscape photography location on earth. Finding a great photo here can be really tricky and can take some time and exploration. On this photo vlog, I explored the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko in search of that perfect Mount Fu...
Tokyo Photography and I HATE This Lens: Canon 50mm rf f/1.8

I love Tokyo and the photography here. But I am not a fan of the Canon 50mm RF f/1.8. It's slow and cheaply build. Does it take good pictures though? This photography vlog from Tokyo, Japan wasn't meant to be a review about the Canon 50mm rf f/1.8 lens. However, I had really high expectations for it and thought it was going to be a great lens for street photography and urban work here in Japan....

Been to Santorini as a stepping stone to other islands. Usually visit early May to catch the wonderful flower display on island such as Kythnos. Even in early May, Santorini was WAY too busy for a couple of oldies such as my wife and I. Once the cruise ships arrive, the place becomes crammed with sweating bodies. Oia was so packed, I couldn't wait to catch the bus back to Fira. Took a great image of the Skaros rock, unfortunately there were a number of models posing for those pesky Instagram images that spoiled the end result. Can't wait to see you touring Serifos. Called in at Sikinos and Sifnos on other tours of the islands.

Was it intentional to wear the "blue roof" colored hat to Santorini? :P I always think it's wild that all the photos are of the "blue rooftops" but there are soooooo few of them. Now that is when I'd want to be there, when there crowds were not!

Great vid, private waterfalls in Yorkshire too, by the way when using a space saver wheel it should only be fitted to the rear for safety. This would mean first fitting the spare to the rear and then replacing the flat tyre with the one removed from the rear .

Quick gear question, Brendan. Are you still using the EOS R or RP? I ask because the wobbly stabilization, or lack thereof, is pretty distracting. Have you thought about the R6 Mark II? Its stabilization, slow motion, autofocus, etc. are allegedly much better. I really enjoy your content. I will likely never make it to Japan, but I will definitely use your tips in other travel locations.

I visited Japan during cherry blossom season a few years ago and just recently visited in May. I personally don’t think the blossoms add enough to be worth the crowds. If you go outside of peak season you can get clear shots at those spots by going early or late. It also doesn’t help that China is open again and exporting tourists to Japan like crazy.

Everywhere has them, the "honeypot" locations. The locations that can easily make a good photograph. Except they stop being unique, like trying to find a unique photo of Glencoe. Always good to try and find something new and different.

Those spots are like Pokemon and collect them all…speaking as someone who has been to all those spots and collected them all before the pandemic and thus beat the crowd. But you are also correct that Japan is so photogenic that you can point the camera anywhere and can get a good photo too.
